Onset is a card game I'm currently working on that blends RPG and traditional Card Game elements. The calculations can be a bit much for casual players, so I put together a calculator to help with the process.

HOW TO PLAY ONSET:

If you're using a traditional deck of cards, use Ace-10 of each suit.  Ace = 1.

The goal is to reduce the other player's health down to zero. You can do this by hitting them with Archers or Knights. You can defend yourself with Shields, and Heal lost damage with Healers.

Kings start at 21 Health.

How much damage a card can deal, heal, or block is based on the number on the card.

Begin by Dealing each both players 8 cards. You cannot redraw cards until you've used all the ones you have. A round is played when both players choose 2 cards for a round.

As soon as one player's King hits 0 health. The game ends, even if you have a healer, or the other King dies as well. The first King to die is the loser as soon as he dies.

ARCHERS:

If you're using a traditional deck of cards, use spades for archers.

Archers deal damage to the king, and move first. If more than one archer is played, the one with the highest number goes first.

ex: If the enemy King has 10 health, and you play a level 5 archer. That King is now at 5 health.

If the other player has a shield, reduce the amount of damage you dealt to the King by that shield's value. If the shield is a higher value that you're card, reduce the shield's value by your card's value.

ex: If the enemy King has 10 health,  you play a level 10 archer, but the other player also has a level 5 shield. You'll only do 5 damage.

ex2: If the enemy King has 10 health, you play a level 5 archer, but the other player also plays a level 10 shield. You'll do zero damage, and that shield will now be at 5 remaining health for the round.

KNIGHTS:

If you're using a traditional deck of cards, use clubs for knights.

Knights are like archers, but they move second, and have unique interactions with other Knights. Making them a risky, yet potentially rewarding card to play.

If both players play a Knight, the player with the Knight of higher value with both immediately kill that Knight and then do damage to the King for both values.

ex: If you play a level 5 Knight, and the other player plays a level 4 Knight. You'll kill their Knight and then do 9 damage to their King!

HEALERS:

If you're using a traditional deck of cards, use hearts for healers.

Healers are like the opposite of Archers. They move after Archer's and Knights, and are not affected by Shields. They will restore your King's health by their value.

ex: If your King has 5 health left, and your healer is level 5. Your King will be at 10 health at the end of the round.

SHIELDS:

If you're using a traditional deck of cards, use diamonds for shields.

Shields, as explained in the archer section, are defensive cards. They will block as much damage as the card's value. In the case of the enemy using two offensive cards, keep in mind that your shield retains damage for that round.

ex: If the enemy has two archers, a level 5 and a level 4. And you have a level 6 shield. You'll completely block that first archer, but the second archer will still be able to do 3 damage to your king.

HOW  TO USE THIS CALCULATOR:

Input both player's health, select the suit type you've both selected for the hand, and the value of the card. Suit = Type, Number = Level. Then, hit set, and the calculator will update your players health. If one player's card say health, that means that player has died.
